  1. The Sandpipers are a large family of shore birds.
  2. Mainly eat invertibrates picked out of mud or soil.
  3. Use specialized narrow bills with which to pick up food.
  4. Range from 11cm in length to 66cm.
  5. Tend to have dull colors.
  6. Found in flocks on the coast but are also found inland.
  7. Most sandpipers nest on the ground.
  8. Sandpipers sometimes fly in disorganized-looking flocks, without an apparent leader.
